I’ve often felt like I don’t fit neatly into one compartment: too quirky for my corporate job, too bland for the Artsy crowd, too flaky for my Academic pals, and totally inept compared to my Pro Parenting pals.
But then I realized, I was trying too hard to belong entirely to one group when in fact, I am a multi-category kind of Gal. A little bit of column A, a bunch of B, and a drop of column C.
Now I even feel comfy owning my contradictions too. Ridiculously silly AND business savvy? Sentimental AND Edgy? Reads-Neuroscience-for-fun AND surfs Perez-Hilton-when-bored? Sure! Because who says we can’t be paradoxes.
It’s our complexities, and yes our contradictions too, that make us uniquely Us. So I refuse to sit still in one compartment these days and wow! Is it liberating!
Is there an area of your life where you’re trying to squeeze into an ill-fitting compartment? Where are you rockin’ your contradictions? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
