If you’re like most people, the very first thing you do when you wake up is roll over and check your phone.
You touch base with your inbox to make sure no fires cropped overnight. You check-in with your whatsapp and texts to see who’s messaged. You scan your social media feeds so you’re not outta the loop.
It’s a normal habit.
But did you know that this teensy, tiny habit is costing you HUUUUUGEly in the productivity department?
When you check in with your phone, you check out of yourSELF.
Brendon Burchard says it best, “your inbox is a conveniently organized system of other people’s agendas for you”.
Research shows that if you check your emails within the first 16 minutes of waking up, you experience a 30% productivity drop over a 5-day period.
Dang!
How you start the day matters.
It sets the tone for the rest of the day. Do you want to be at the mercy of everyone else’s whims, demands, and queries all day? Heck, no!
Why not start the day by getting in touch with yourSELF. You’re the captain of your life and you are steering this ship. Attune to yourself first thing to gauge the waters.
Like this:
As you wake up, take LITERALLY one minute, and feel into your body. Do a quick body scan from head to toe taking noting how your body feels (not a pain survey, you’re not hunting for discomfort). If there is discomfort, simply notice that it’s there, don’t try to change it, and move on to the next place.
You’re greeting yourself.
Take a couple of long slow breaths and watch them inflate your body. Really pay attention to how inhaling changes the shape of your body. Feel the weight of yourself on your bed. And then slowly rise.
You did it! You anchored yourself for the rest of the day.

Big love,
