Sometimes it feels like there is an endless list of things that are going wrong at any given moment. And boy does it seem to help if we can just offload to a pal about it. A good venting session makes us feel lighter…or does it?
“I barely slept last night. The baby is teething nonstop. I don’t know how I will cope today.”
“My boss took all the credit for the report we pulled together last minute. It’s so unfair!”
Does complaining really relieve the burden? Or does it cause unnecessary focus on the issue making it larger than it needs to be?
New solution: feel your joys like you’ve been feeling your lows.
That means next time something goes right, turn up the volume and tell as many pals as you can! Go into all the juicy details. It’s not bragging, it’s relishing what’s going awesomely. Really try and feel that joy with as much gusto as you would when something’s falling apart.
“I’m in love an amazing Gal. Seriously, I’m so lucky! ” BE deliriously in love! (And ignore the eye rolls).
“I busted my ass and I got a shout out at work! Check out these emails from the boss! Man, it feels good to be appreciated.” Inspire others to share their wins.
“Kiddo didn’t pee on me today! Yay!” Small victories count too, especially when you’re potty training!
Focus on what’s surprisingly falling into place, what’s delighting you, where you are kicking some serious ass. This will reveal even more things to be pleased about. It’s a funny mind trick: whatever we focus on expands so let’s set ourselves up for some expanding awesomeness.
Where can you amp up the volume on what’s going right in your life? Where’s the hidden awesomeness? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
