Around this time of year, it’s easy to start feeling behind. You take stock of all the things you meant to accomplish and it just feels that everything is taking tooooo looooong. Progress is barely visible.
But if you take a different vantage point, everything can shift.
Our minds are teflon for positives and velcro for negatives. So we naturally think of all the projects left undone, all the open loops, the lack of forward movement. And then we double down with more serious, more motivated plans for the next year.
But, you really are much farther than you think.
Take a couple of minutes and tally up.
What were the biggest moments of this past year? Just type out, stream-of-consciousness-style, the achievements, milestones, and learning leaps. What were the new skills you never planned to pick up but had to, the family tussles you sorted out, the ways that you were brave this year?
Try and write for 5 full minutes without stopping. No censoring.
Then look how far you’ve come.
You’ve learned so much. You’ve grown so much!
And you are way, way farther along than you give yourself credit for.
Big love,
Jen
