There’s one thing that’s constant as a single mom to a 3 and 5-year-old:
Chaos.
As someone who needs a lot of space and quiet to center myself, collect my thoughts, and just generally be a decent person, this has been one of the toughest aspects of parenting.
So. Much. Loud!
The kidlets pretty much take turns in a barrage of Mommy-I-need, Mommy-I-want, He hit me, She took my, and on and on. At full volume.
This is what sparked “peanut butter spoons” (watch them try and talk while eating these!) and getting Netflix solely as a digital babysitter just so I could have a Mommy Time Out.
I’m often taking extra time in the loo so I can sneak an extra minute peace. I’ve played hide-and-seek just so I can hide in a closet for 5 minutes quietly.
I don’t have a perfect solution. But I’ve found it helps to be gentler on myself for this version of parenting not being what I expected, or how others’ looks.
And try to go deep when blissful connections arrive.
What about you? What hacks do you use to try and sneak in some peace into your full-volume, jam-packed life? Let us know in the comments. I bet other readers have been there, too!
Big love,
Jen
