There’s a lot of talk about going after your dreams and doing whatever it takes. Never accept no for an answer. Keep forging forward no matter what the cost.
But can you take this too far?
What if chasing after that dream has you running in circles and you are missing out on life in the process? Do you ever get the sense that you’re kinda clinging to the dream?
My own Coach calls this the “disappointed dream”. You envision life will be a certain way, you’re working your buns off trying to make it happen, and yet it’s like you’re fighting against the grain of life.
So do you give up?
Here’s a great tool to use to answer that question:
Is the dream empowering you or disempowering you?
Is the dream still inspiring you? Is it moving you powerfully into action? Is your life better because of it?
Or is it totally depleting you? Are you stuck in a mind loop of how it should be rather than rooted in the present reality of what is actually unfolding? We can really get ourselves into trouble by running with a dream almost ignoring what is going on in our lives.
Take a step back and take stock of what is actually happening. Maybe it’s time for an important shift in your current dream. Maybe it’s time to pause it for a while. Life can look all kinds of different in a month, a year, and longer. Maybe it’s time to let a disempowering dream go.
Maybe it’s time for a new dream. What would that look like?
What about you? Do you have a dream you’re considering letting go? Is the dream empowering you or disempowering you? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

That’s a really great question, Jen! One I need to sit with for awhile before I know my own answers!
