It’s just become spring where I live. The snow is subsiding and I can smell the muddy earth for the first time in months.
And with this season comes the delightful spring flu. My home has been passing around a mutation of it all month.
It’s bringing bone-deep fatigue and got me thinking about those times we’re too tired to go on.
Like when the sight of still-dirty spoons in the clean dishwasher is so exhausting you just send them through for another round.
When you tell your colleagues you’re doing a quick dry cleaners run at lunch but really you’re napping in the Costco parking lot.
When you nail a huge presentation but now you’re so knackered you can’t get out of bed. Except to marathon with the Stark sisters and eat kettle chips.
It’s ok.
Give yourself permission to take a break.
Your spirit is still logging the time.
Your spirit doesn’t mind that your body is sick. It’s gonna go right on dreaming up ideas, planting seeds in the corner of your stuffed-up mind. It’s going to whistle a tune you haven’t heard in a while that sparks a memory of something you meant to remember. A breadcrumb trail you planned to follow but got too busy and forgot.
When you’re under the weather and you’re forced to slow down, you may just become still enough to hear your spirit’s whisper.
Like Leonard Cohen sang:
“There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”
Give yourself this time. There’s always a winter before spring.
Do Less. Live More.
Big love,
Jen
